Hernon to double size of facility, add 20 jobs

SANFORD, Fla.—Hernon Manufacturing Inc., a producer of adhesive and sealing technologies, will more than double the size of its facility in Sanford through a $2.5 million expansion projected to add 20 jobs.

President Harry Arnon said the project is expected to be complete in mid-2016; the firm broke ground in March.

Hernon will add about 33,000 square feet to its existing 27,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility, which utilizes a number of elastomeric materials, including urethanes and silicone, to produce adhesives for a variety of bonding applications—including rubber-to-rubber, rubber-to-metal or rubber to other substrates.

“The last four years we've doubled the business, and within the next five years, we feel we will be more than doubling the business again,” Arnon said.

The president said Hernon exports to about 44 countries, and while its only manufacturing presence is located in Sanford, it has partners worldwide in Brazil, China and Asia.

The company said it serves the automotive, electrical, electronics, communication, aerospace, appliances, military ammunition, power generation and transportation industries. The firm's technologies include anaerobic, cyanoacrylate, epoxies, acrylics, methacrylates and U.V. visible cure, including customized technologies.

Hernon introduced a new family of products, Fusion Bond, for rubber-to-rubber or metal bonding. The product was released about six months ago. Arnon said the impact resistance provided by Fusion Bond for metal-to-metal bonding is greater than 50 Joules, which according to the executive is more than double anything else on the marketplace.

“The feedback has been very positive so far,” Arnon said. “If you realize everything today as far as marine or anything that has to do with components of cars or components of aircraft or anything else today where you're looking for composites, or metal or a combination—impact resistance is critical
